IPN and Queen Mary University will boost International School of Scientific Research

With the design of a program to create the researchers of the future, the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) and Queen Mary University of London will launch the International School of Scientific Research, as one of the main actions agreed by the Director General of the IPN, Arturo Reyes Sandoval, and the President and Director of QMUL, Colin Bailey, for the benefit of both institutions.

In this sense, Public Education Minister, Delfina Gomez Alvarez, has stressed for Mexico´s Government it´s essential to build a country with better higher education and higher quality.

In assuring during the virtual meeting with the Director of QMUL a historical relationship of great importance for the two institutions was cemented, the Head of the IPN explained the first program of the International School of Scientific Research will begin on July 9 and has generated the interest of 60 students from Mexico , Colombia and Chile with an inclination to a scientific career. Likewise, Reyes Sandoval commented that both institutions also agreed to strengthen this academic relationship through a series of activities that include english courses to support the start of graduate programs, professional development courses and dual Master's courses with international stays.

The agreement also considers the empowerment of three generations of women, both mexican and english, in the four major areas of modern knowledge: science, technology, engineering and mathematics, better known as STEM, as well as in industry and arts, she said. Both academic authorities shared their projections on the establishment of a joint innovation center, which is expected to be located on the Queen Mary campus in England, whose objective will be to develop initiatives and innovative projects to solve the needs of society, in both countries. During the meeting, which also allowed the exchange of views on the effects of the pandemic on the world and the education sector, it was reported that Philippa Lloyd and Sharon Ellis, Vice-Rector for Policies and Collaboration Strategies and Director of Research, Entrepreneurship and Collaboration, respectively, as well as Teresa Alonso Rasgado, International Director and polytechnic graduate , will lead the joint initiatives from the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, a polytechnic team headed by researcher Guillermo Perez Ishiwara, head of the Molecular Biomedicine Laboratory 1, of the Graduate Studies and Research Section (SEPI), of the National School of Medicine and Homeopathy (ENMH) of the IPN, will be in charge of monitoring and implementing the new initiatives in order to maximize their positive impact on both institutions and the countries they represent.
