Furia Guinda Makes History in Baseball

Baseball at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) is celebrating a historic milestone. For the first time, the team has qualified for the National Collegiate Championship, which will take place from March 31 to April 5 in Xalapa, Veracruz.

The road to the national championship began with a crucial 5-4 victory over the Pumas from UNAM at Ciudad Universitaria, where pitcher Miguel Maldonado made history by setting a new record with 17 consecutive strikeouts in the collegiate category. The team secured its qualification on March 1 with a commanding 13-4 win over the Leones from Universidad Anáhuac.

Now, La Furia Guinda will face the top eight teams from the National Baseball Conference of CONADEIP at the Final 8 UV 2025 National Baseball Championship, which will be held at the Campus for Culture, Arts, and Sports (CAD). The IPN team, part of the central zone alongside UNAM, Anáhuac Centro, Anáhuac Norte, Ibero CDMX, and UAEMEX, has shown significant progress since competing in the Metropolitan League, where they have faced tough matchups that have elevated their level of play.
