Giving renewed momentum to the fight against gender-based violence and strengthening the culture of reporting and justice enforcement were among the commitments outlined in the general collaboration agreement signed by the General Director of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), Arturo Reyes Sandoval, and the Attorney General of Justice of Mexico City (FGJCDMX), Ernestina Godoy Ramos.
Additionally, the agreement entails training for FGJCDMX personnel and students, as well as the promotion of activities and announcements through the programs broadcasted by XEIPN Channel Eleven and Radio IPN. Efforts will also be coordinated for the implementation of community service and internships for IPN students at FGJCDMX.
Reyes Sandoval acknowledged the willingness of both institutions to address and support complaints from students through the Sexual Offenses Investigation Unit, which focuses on students in higher education levels within FGJCDMX.
"Today, we strengthen our ties and channel efforts to eradicate gender-based violence," he emphasized.
The General Director presented a copy of the new Protocol for the Prevention, Assistance, and Sanction of Gender-Based Violence at IPN to Attorney Ernestina Godoy. He also informed that the Polytechnic has distributed a Support Guide for Handling Complaints Regarding Gender-Based Violence, aimed at facilitating the recognition of these behaviors and identifying stages of institutional response and action.
He highlighted that this material includes information on the procedures to follow with the Public Prosecutor's Office, where FGJCDMX has been a partner in comprehensively addressing cases that go beyond IPN's jurisdiction.
FGJCDMX's Commitment to Certification
On her part, the head of FGJCDMX, Ernestina Godoy Ramos, stressed that the institution under her purview seeks certification of its work. This involves emphasizing the specialization of experts, investigative police, public prosecutors, and attorneys, as crimes cannot be investigated in the same way.
She expressed that one of the objectives outlined in the document is the training of FGJCDMX personnel, especially at the Professional Training and Higher Studies Institute (IFPES), whose work has been promoted during this administration.
During the ceremony held at the FGJCDMX offices, Ernestina Godoy emphasized that one of the prosecutor's office's goals is to regain the public's trust, promoting a culture of reporting so that individuals feel that the institution will exert its full force, structural resources, as well as human and technical capabilities to uncover the truth and deliver justice.
She highlighted that FGJCDMX places special focus on violence against women, leading to the creation of a General Coordination for Gender Offense Investigations and Victim Support, with specialized prosecutor's offices and units to address complaints from both male and female students.
She recalled that significant efforts are being made to disseminate the work of FGJCDMX to encourage trust, reporting, and the gathering of more information, better results, and reduced impunity. For this reason, she expressed gratitude for the presence of the directors of Radio IPN, Enrique Anzures Becerril, and XEIPN Channel Eleven, Carlos Brito Lavalle, for their support in disseminating this work.
