More than 50 tons of non-perishable food, bottled water, cleaning and personal hygiene products, medications, and pet food donated by the community of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) were delivered to the communities affected by Hurricane Otis in Acapulco, Coyuca de Benítez, San Marcos, and other regions of the state of Guerrero.
Polytechnic representatives confirmed the reception of the supplies at the collection point of the National Guard, located in the Diamond Zone of Acapulco, and their distribution was handled by the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (Sedena), which daily delivered 35,000 food packages and 100,000 liters of water, supporting over a million people.
All schools, centers, and academic units of the IPN throughout the country contributed more than 17,000 kilograms of provisions such as rice, beans, jam, cereal, milk, instant soups, and cookies; 32,000 liters of bottled water; nearly 72,000 pieces of toilet paper, diapers, toothpaste, soaps, and repellents; as well as rags, cloths, garbage bags, brooms, and dustpans, among other items.
Yessica Gasca Castillo, the Secretary of Innovation and Social Integration of this educational institution, emphasized the solidarity, brotherhood, and commitment of the polytechnic community to the populations of Guerrero in making this initial aid shipment, as collection centers remain open to receive more donations.
In turn, the Secretary of Administration, Javier Tapia Santoyo, commented that organization and social commitment are strengths of the polytechnic community recognized and valued by society. Additionally, these acts of fraternity and empathy serve as an example for the new generations of students.
He stated that it is important to continue being present as an institution in communities that require assistance and to continue supporting the well-being of the population through various actions.
