To promote scientific dissemination and bring the knowledge generated by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to all sectors of the population, the Secretariat of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation of the Mexico City government (Sectei) and the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) presented the "Science and Innovation Dissemination Portal."
The website https://ciencia.sectei.cdmx.gob.mx/ is comprised of five sections: Scientific Heritage, Multiscience, Scientific Contributions, Science Club, and CTIH System (Science, Technology, Innovation, and Humanities), where users can easily and attractively explore these areas.
During the presentation, the General Director of IPN, Arturo Reyes Sandoval, emphasized the importance of sparking curiosity and interest in science and technology among children and youth dynamically and playfully, as well as providing them with information that motivates them to learn and explore more about scientific topics.
He mentioned that the "Luis Enrique Erro" Planetarium and the Tezozómoc Museum will collaborate in the Science Club section to encourage participation through a credential with free access and discounts on special activities organized by the Directorate of Science and Technology Dissemination (DDiCyT) of the Politécnico.
In turn, the head of Sectei, Ofelia Angulo Guerrero, pointed out that through education and knowledge of science and technology, the professionals of the future can be formed, who will acquire better tools in the classrooms to perform in the workplace.
Therefore, she added, this portal will contribute to ensuring the right to access science, while also seeking to awaken scientific vocations in children and youth in Mexico City.
At the event, held at the "Luis Enrique Erro" Planetarium, the full-dome projection "Mexico-Tenochtitlan against Climate Change" was screened, a documentary supported by Sectei that showcases advances in frontier scientific research and technological development in renewable energies.
The General Director of the Politécnico informed that this is a production carried out at the "Luis Enrique Erro" Planetarium by students and researchers from the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Química e Industrias Extractivas(ESIQIE); the Centro de Investigación en Ciencia Aplicada y Tecnología Avanzada (CICATA), Altamira Unit; the Escuela Superior de Física y Matemáticas (ESFM); the Unidad Profesional Interdisciplinaria en Ingeniería y Tecnologías Avanzadas (UPIITA), and the NASA Scientific Visualization Studio, with an investment of 2 million pesos from Sectei.
Through these actions, both entities ensure society's access to scientific knowledge and allow the consolidation of IPN as a leading educational institution to achieve a more equitable and sustainable world.
The event was attended by the Deputy Secretary of Science, Technology, and Innovation and the Director-General of Science, Dissemination, and Knowledge Transfer, both from Sectei, Lorena Orozco and Juan Luis Díaz de León Santiago, respectively. On behalf of IPN, the Secretaries of Research and Postgraduate Studies, Ana Lilia Coria Páez; of Innovation and Social Integration, Yessica Gasca Castillo; General, Carlos Ruiz Cárdenas; and Academic, Mauricio Igor Jasso Zaranda, participated.
