The Secretariat of Innovation and Social Integration (SIIS), through the Directorate of Technological Business Incubation (DIET) of the IPN, organized the EmprenDIET 2023 Fair as a meeting point where polytechnic entrepreneurs acquired the necessary tools to consolidate their ideas into concrete businesses.
During the inaugural declaration, the head of SIIS, Yessica Gasca Castillo, emphasized that as entrepreneurship is a significant driving force in the economy and society, the EmprenDIET 2023 Fair reflects the commitment of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional to fostering innovation and supporting entrepreneurs.
"While the IPN generates knowledge and remains at the forefront as an outstanding educational institution in the field of academic excellence in the country, it is also necessary to mention the importance of how that generated value integrates with society by offering solutions to the needs faced by the industrial sector," she noted.
Alfredo Santiago Ortiz, in charge of DIET, stated that dreams and the desire to transcend have driven various polytechnic students to transform their ideas into innovative projects and products useful to society, turning them into examples of perseverance, constancy, work, and discipline.
Some examples include Esther Orozco, who is part of a team developing a COVID vaccine; Filiberto Vázquez, creator of indelible pigment; Luis Armando Bravo, founder of Probionix, bioengineering of prosthetics; Sonia Mayra Pérez, who has promoted the commercialization of Transferon; and Dr. Marco Antonio Ramírez, leader of the team that developed Lagarto, the first microprocessor in Mexico.
More than 700 visitors attended four keynote lectures, two expert panels, four practical workshops, a business simulator, and a networking session with over 100 entrepreneurs and businesspeople. Additionally, there was an exhibition of technological project stands, a robotics demonstration, and a project runway.
In this context, the ILAN Award for IPN University Innovation 2023 was presented, recognizing three polytechnic innovations with social impact: Biorecubrex, which reduces the amount of spoiled papayas during the collection and transportation process, developed by Cynthia Pamela Urrita Meza, a student at the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biológicas (ENCB), and her advisor, Dr. Doris Luna Escalona.
Also, the Witlab laboratory, formed by Luis Roberto Arias from ESCA Santo Tomás and Luis Alfonso Velázquez from ESFM, who developed a coating for fruits and vegetables that extends their shelf life, as well as a biodegradable detergent with considerable water savings.
Finally, "Energetic Innovation, the Revolution of Granular Blocks," a project that improves the efficiency of solar heaters, developed by students Jazhiell Arath de Jesús Silva Godínez and Javier Ignacio Saucedo Flores from ESIME Azcapotzalco, Oliver Francisco Sánchez Hernández, an Industrial Robotics engineer at ESIME Azcapotzalco, and Allan Ronier Diez Barroso, a graduate student from ESIME Zacatenco.
