IPN Launches Multidisciplinary Community Social Service Brigades

• This marks the first activity of its kind scheduled for 2025; it will deliver various services and support activities across 12 municipalities in six states of the country.

• IPN Director General, Dr. Arturo Reyes Sandoval, urged participants to uphold the social vision of their work.

Authorities from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) officially launched the Spring 2025 edition of the Multidisciplinary Community Social Service Brigades, the first of its kind to be held this year. The initiative comprises 210 brigade members, 22 coordinators, 12 supervisors, and 18 operators, who will visit 12 municipalities in six Mexican states.

In his address, IPN Director General Dr. Arturo Reyes Sandoval encouraged participating students to maintain a strong sense of social responsibility: “Let every action you take, every step you make, bring benefit to the people of these communities and society as a whole. Let every step count. As members of the Politécnico, that social vision is already within us. I congratulate you for bringing your knowledge to where it is most needed — to remote communities,” he stated during the send-off ceremony.

The municipalities that will benefit from these activities are: Sabanilla, Chiapas; Atlapexco, Huazalingo, Huichapan, Lolotla, San Agustín Tlaxiaca, and San Salvador in Hidalgo; San Pedro Huamelula and Santa María Huazolotitlán in Oaxaca; Xochitlán de Vicente Suárez in Puebla; San Vicente Tancuayalab in San Luis Potosí; and Maní in Yucatán.

Dr. Reyes Sandoval emphasized that all projects have been previously coordinated with local authorities. For example, in Atlapexco, efforts will focus on restoring the Río Venados, while in Huichapan, a proposal for sustainable electrical infrastructure is planned.

In addition, San Vicente Tancuayalab, San Luis Potosí, will benefit from geotechnical studies aimed at repairing a sinkhole that has affected a local elementary school.

The brigade members departed from IPN’s Zacatenco campus, traveling in three buses, accompanied by two ambulances, two mobile medical units, and 12 minivans.

Also present at the event were: Mauricio Igor Jasso Zaranda, Secretary General of IPN; Ismael Jaidar Monter, Academic Secretary of IPN; Yessica Gasca Castillo, Secretary of Innovation and Social Integration of IPN; Beatriz Rangel Romo, Director of Alumni and Social Service of IPN; as well as Yeymi Yadira Solís Zavala, Municipal President of Huichapan, Hidalgo.
