A powerful female voice resonated within the stone walls of the "Octavio Paz" courtyard, inside the Library of Mexico. The venue, illuminated with warm lights, provided unbeatable acoustics for the first of two opera concerts held to celebrate the 87th Anniversary of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), featuring soprano Zaira Soria.
Zaira's voice and the instrumental accompaniment faded away, giving way to applause, and it was then that tenor Alan Pingarrón, with his characteristic good humor, took the baton for this concert, not before expressing gratitude for the invitation from the Politécnico, an institution he acknowledged for its contribution to society.
As the concert progressed, the echoes of the breathtaking performances echoed through the corridors of the Library of Mexico, attracting people to join the gala, which welcomed them with open doors. As Marycarmen Sánchez Sánchez, Director of Cultural Outreach, pointed out, it was a special occasion because the Politécnico belongs to everyone, and there was no better way to celebrate than with society.
The atmosphere became even more festive when the attendees recognized some classic Mexican melodies like "Amor de mis amores" or "Cuando vuelva a tu lado," causing some to softly sing along with the vocals coming from the stage.
Enchanted by the impressive performances of the artists, the attendees were left wanting to hear more from both, and it was a few days later when the Politécnico community had the opportunity to enjoy a second gala with these artists.
The stage was different, but the atmosphere created by the voices of Zaira Soria and Alan Pingarrón was just like days before. The audience was larger and this time filled the "Ing. Alejo Peralta" Auditorium at the "Jaime Torres Bodet" Cultural Center.
Vladimir Tokarev on the violin, Mónica del Águila on the cello, and Sergio Vázquez on the piano formed the outstanding musical accompaniment that flowed alongside the soprano and the tenor.
Between songs, Alan Pingarrón took the opportunity to share with the audience the story of the great friendship that binds him to Zaira Soria, whom he met years ago and whose passion for music brought them together for the creation of the show titled "Between Love and Bohemia."
There was a general jubilation at the end of the concert, and with standing ovations from all the attendees, it was once again acknowledged that art is an integral part of the polytechnic education and the openness to society, a fundamental characteristic of the IPN.
