• Students will have access to nine undergraduate programs, one engineering degree, and eight dual high school programs; the initiative will initially serve 500 students, with the capacity to reach 900.
• This and other actions undertaken by IPN are part of the national enrollment expansion strategy promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
As part of the national strategy to expand educational enrollment, spearheaded by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Secretary of Public Education Mario Delgado Carrillo, the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) inaugurated the Polivirtual University Campus in the municipality of González, Tamaulipas. This initiative provides a new option for upper secondary and higher education through non-school-based and blended learning modalities.
Polivirtual is a fully equipped physical campus designed to serve young people who lack technological resources at home, offering them access to online academic programs with the support of specialized staff to address academic questions. The campus was formally presented by IPN’s Director General, Arturo Reyes Sandoval, together with Tamaulipas Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya.
Through this model, students can pursue nine undergraduate programs, one engineering degree, and eight dual high school programs. Conceived as a strategic platform, Polivirtual offers flexible, high-quality online programs that strengthen independent learning, reduce barriers to access, and broaden educational coverage.
The launch of Polivirtual was made possible through the signing of a General Collaboration Agreement with the Government of Tamaulipas and a Specific Agreement with the municipality of González.
“With this dream now realized here in González, the Instituto Politécnico Nacional contributes to the vision of our President, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo: that young people remain in school, enjoy their education, and recognize it as the best path toward becoming professionals committed to society,” emphasized IPN Director General Arturo Reyes Sandoval.
He added that one of the Institute’s guiding principles is to provide educational excellence, particularly for those who need it most: “If distance, financial limitations, or family responsibilities prevent young people from attending the Politécnico, then the Politécnico will come to them.”
Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya highlighted that the municipality of González now serves as a national benchmark as the first location to host the Polivirtual education system.
“We are fully committed to seizing these opportunities to strengthen professional development through the Politécnico Nacional. That is part of the significance of this landmark event,” he stated.
For his part, González Mayor Miguel Alejandro Zúñiga Rodríguez affirmed that the project represents the materialization of a collective dream that will equip local youth with the tools to transform their future.
“We have invested more than 5 million pesos in the recovery, renovation, and outfitting of this space—an investment that goes beyond bricks and mortar. This first stage will serve more than 500 students, paving the way toward our goal of nearly 900 young people continuing their studies after completing upper secondary education,” he noted.
In his remarks, Tamaulipas Secretary of Education Miguel Ángel Valdez García emphasized that Polivirtual brings higher education to González for the first time.
“Our region has 229 primary and secondary schools, many of them multi-grade. We have five high schools—two private and three public—but no university option. Today, the stars align: we are living a historic day for Tamaulipas and for Mexico,” he said.
Finally, Naomi Bautista Dávila, a first-year student in the Bachelor’s Program in International Business enrolled under this model, recalled that until recently, pursuing a university degree in González was nearly impossible.
“Thank you, Dr. Arturo Reyes Sandoval, for opening the doors of one of Mexico’s most important institutions. We will carry with pride a degree certified by the Instituto Politécnico Nacional. It is not only an honor but also a guarantee of excellence that inspires us to give our very best,” she emphasized.
