During the Second Internationalization Forum of IPN 2023, the Robotics Club of the Centro de Estudios Científicos y Tecnológicos (CECyT) 9 "Juan de Dios Bátiz" presented the work developed by the teams Donk Pink and Donkerry, comprised of students from all four specialties and all semesters of this institution.
Through an educational robotics workshop held at the Research Pavilion, some members, accompanied by Professor Irving Eleazar Pérez Montes, the club's advisor, explained how the two representative teams of the school came into being, the evolution they have had since their foundation in 2015, as well as their experiences in national and international competitions.
The Robotics Club of CECyT 9 was formed by the initiative of some female and male students who sought to represent the institution in different competitions. In 2018, the organization FIRST called for a competition with teams formed by women, thus Donk Pink was founded; later, boys joined the mixed team Donkerry, and international activism began.
Both squads have achieved a series of triumphs: the award for the most outstanding new team at the 2019 FIRST; in the Make X Challenge 2023, they secured third place in the Alliances, and more recently, the Connect Award at the regional center stage, and the Control Award at the national stage, for the best robot control through programming.
These national achievements have given them the opportunity to participate prominently in three world championships, the first being in Houston, United States; then in Canton, China, and the most recent in Bangkok, Thailand, where they won the Best Engineering Book Award, which consists of a technical report written in English and presented to a group of judges.
Therefore, they are now preparing to participate in the next season of the First Tech Challenge (FTC), aiming for the Inspire Award at the Houston, United States world championship. Additionally, due to their outstanding performance in the Make X Challenge - held in May of this current year - where they secured spots in the Dubai world championship in November and the China world championship in December.
According to Professor Pérez Montes, being part of the two representative robotics teams of the school is not just about building competition robots, but it involves a great deal of technical work, as well as seeking the necessary support to compete at the international level and gain enriching experiences, both technologically and personally.
