Enhancing Mathematics Learning with a Mobile Application

Researchers from the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Mecánica y Eléctrica (ESIME), Culhuacán Unit, have developed a free mobile application for students at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN). This app can be installed on a mobile device, allowing students to access libraries, simulators, laboratories, and tutoring sessions, thereby facilitating the learning of Differential and Integral Calculus.

The group, comprised of professors José Guadalupe Torres Morales, Maribel Rojo Hernández, Héctor Becerril Mendoza, and Araceli Leticia Peralta Maguey, led by Dr. Rosario del Pilar Gibert Delgado, considers it essential to integrate technology into education and leverage the potential offered by mobile devices, particularly in subjects that students find challenging.

The application is based on two research projects. The first involved the proposal and design of a Digital Learning Ecosystem in Mathematics (EDAM). For this, interviews were conducted with Calculus teachers to determine the topics that should be included in the platform.

With this information, the team of professors from the Communications and Electronics Engineering program developed the structure and academic content of EDAM, which formed the foundation for the development of the mobile application.

Currently, this app, compatible with Android devices, is used by the student community at ESIME Culhuacán, who have reported encouraging results. Consequently, the development team aims to extend its use to all Polytechnic students and incorporate more learning units in the future.

Students can access libraries, simulators, laboratories, and tutoring sessions, thereby facilitating the learning of Differential and Integral Calculus.

Huélum is a program on Once TV that airs on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m., with a repeat on Saturdays at 1:00 p.m.
