The Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) strengthened its presence in the state of Sinaloa with scientific and innovation projects developed by the Centro Interdisciplinario de Investigación para el Desarrollo Integral Regional (CIIDIR) Unidad Sinaloa and the Centros de Vinculación y Desarrollo Regional (CVDR) Unidades Los Mochis, Culiacán and Mazatlán, and will soon have a Radio IPN station.

Foreign Centers, arms of the IPN

While touring this entity from north to south to visit these units, the General Director of the IPN, Arturo Reyes Sandoval, emphasized that the linkage and research centers in the entities are the arms of the Polytechnic that fulfill one of the priority objectives of bringing science, technology, and innovation to the entire national territory.

Reyes Sandoval stated that the leading institution of scientific and technological education in Mexico will now promote not only the creation of patents but also the licensing of scientific projects so that a greater number of companies can benefit from science and technology.

He informed that the Politécnico will soon begin a process to simplify the administrative procedures carried out by the linkage and research centers before the central polytechnic agencies so that scientists and professors can concentrate more time on their research projects with national and regional impact.

Accompanied by IPN officials, Reyes Sandoval said that it is of vital importance for Politécnico to know from the scientists themselves that their infrastructure and equipment are needed, to accelerate the processes to support their units to function in a better way.

Radio IPN to open station in Culiacan

Accompanied by the distinguished Polytechnic graduate and member of the National Council of Radio and Television, Rafael Borbón Ramos; the director of Radio IPN, Enrique Anzures Becerril, and the director of CVDR Culiacán Unit, Carlos A. Camarillo Castro, the head of the Politécnico announced that the Politécnico radio station will open a station in Culiacán, which will function as a repeater and will broadcast cultural, scientific and artistic content, as well as musical programs for young people, to increase the Institute's presence in that region of Sinaloa.

Rodrigo López Zavala, Undersecretary of Higher and Higher Education of the State of Sinaloa said that the Politécnico and the government of Sinaloa will soon sign a general collaboration agreement to promote the linkage and dissemination of science. "We want science in Sinaloa to have an impact on the productivity and competitiveness of companies," he said.

At the CVDR Los Mochis Unit, Reyes Sandoval met with the director of this center, Rafael Medina Gonzalez, who, supported by his work team, detailed the actions they carry out in educational outreach with the Polivirtual platform, language training, training, certification, mapping of business production processes and technology transfer, to promote both innovation and competitiveness of the productive sector.

Impact on the agricultural and aquaculture sectors

At the CIIDIR Sinaloa Unit, the head of the IPN toured the facilities and specialized laboratories where scientific projects are being developed to improve grains such as corn, combat viruses and bacteria that affect plants, as well as use silver nanoparticles to attack shrimp diseases. The Center, directed by Dr. Juan Carlos Sainz Hernández, offers Ph. Ds in Landscape Heritage Conservation and Biotechnology, as well as a Master's degree in Natural Resources and the Environment. Its strength is supported by 43 scientists who are members of the National System of Researchers (SNI).

CVDR Mazatlan and businessmen team up

Reyes Sandoval also visited the CVDR Mazatlan Unit, headed by Juan Antonio Duarte Ongay, which promotes the economic and social sectors of southern Sinaloa through specialized training services, strategic alliances, and innovation and scientific and technological research projects, as well as technology transfer and business incubation.

Previously, the General Director of the IPN met with businessmen grouped in the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra) Mazatlan Delegation and other business organizations in the tourism sector, canned food, and coffee and sugar producers, who requested the support of the Politécnico to encourage economic growth in Sinaloa.
