The objective of an educational institution is not only the number of publications and relevance in the scientific field but also the impact on improving the quality of life for humanity. All research should lead to common benefits, agreed Arturo Reyes Sandoval, General Director of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), and Muhammad M. Al-Saggaf, President of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Saudi Arabia, during the signing of a general collaboration agreement between both institutions.

"It is not just about publications and being strong in science. We are fortunate that the institution is full of engineers and scientists who apply their knowledge to solve problems affecting society," stated the head of the Politécnico.

During the meeting, Reyes Sandoval shared with the delegation from the Arab institution the revolutionary origins that gave life to the Politécnico, the contributions made by its innovation centers, and its impact on national life, being Mexico's scientific and technological arm. "From the moment I began to lead the IPN, I decided that we should open our doors to the world," he said, emphasizing the importance of the agreement and the support of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation to achieve this link.

Dr. Muhammad M. Al-Saggaf explained that King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals was founded in 1963 and currently has 10,000 students and 95 study programs divided into 23 departments. Since 2020, when they became independent from the Saudi Arabian government, their mission has been to expand worldwide.

With educational options such as machine learning, cybersecurity, blockchain, robotics, and materials, the university president noted that student mobility and adaptation will be straightforward since IPN has similar study lines to what is done in Saudi Arabia. "We continue on that path of being relevant not today, but for tomorrow; not for Saudi Arabia, but for the world," he concluded.
