With the presence of the Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, as the guest of honor, the General Director of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), Arturo Reyes Sandoval, led the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Escuela Superior de Turismo (EST). He highlighted the institution’s vital role in positioning Mexico as a global tourism reference.
Reyes Sandoval emphasized that behind Mexico's image as a captivating destination waiting to be discovered lies the tireless work of thousands of individuals, including tour guides, hoteliers, restaurateurs, artisans, entrepreneurs, government officials, and notably, the National Polytechnic Institute and its Escuela Superior de Turismo.
He added that, with over 4,100 students currently enrolled, the quality of its graduates, and their significant roles in key positions at the Secretariat of Tourism, the World Tourism Organization, and prestigious hotel chains, the EST remains a testament to high academic and professional standards.
This year, the Tourism Commission of the Senate of the Republic recognized the EST as the best institution to study tourism in 2023. It has also been endorsed as a School of Excellence by the National Commission for Tourism Evaluation and holds the Ted-Qual Themis Certification from the World Tourism Organization (WTO).
Furthermore, the institution has earned certifications for its administrative processes (ISO 9000) and the Management System for Educational Organizations (ISO 9001) from the American Trust Register.
Promoting Cultural Tourism
As part of the event, Josefina Zamora, a federal government official, announced that promoting cultural tourism, preserving the traditions of communities that define the country's identity, and supporting the work of artisans would be among the most significant actions of the current federal administration, all within a framework of sustainable tourism.
She added that Mexico’s natural, historical, and cultural resources, combined with its strategic geopolitical location, would be fully leveraged through the active participation of the Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur), federal, state, and municipal authorities, as well as private, academic, and social sectors.
Following this, the head of the National Lottery, Marco Antonio Mena, alongside four "niños gritones," unveiled the commemorative lottery ticket for the anniversary, part of the Major Draw No. 3949. The event concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by the attending authorities.
