Industrial Process Technicians will acquire the skills to manufacture metal-mechanical products using new processes and forms of production, as well as the ability to operate machines, conventional tools, program machines, computerized numerical control tools, the application of statistical control of product quality, the management of manufacturing processes, computer-aided mechanical design, the operation of measuring instruments, digital calibrations and the handling of industrial automation systems.

Candidate's Profile


  • Classes are given in Spanish.
  • Uses different languages for communication; graphic, verbal, and symbolic.
  • Basic knowledge in exact sciences (Mathematics) and Physical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry).

  • Manual dexterity in handling small objects, tools or very precise measuring instruments.

Graduate's profile

IPN graduates will have a solid comprehensive education, with general, scientific, and technological knowledge, so they will be able to perform in different fields and adequately combine theory and practice in their professional fields. They will have acquired the necessary skills to develop a life and career plan, develop in inter- and multidisciplinary work environments, work in teams and develop leadership attitudes.

All graduates will have received information based on ethical values and responsibility, which will make them aware and open to change, capable of permanently updating themselves and responding to the needs of society and the sustainable development of the nation.

  • Controls advances in the production process of parts and products. Improves work methods for the benefit of manufacturing processes.
  • Maintains communication between departments responsible for communication. Supports and/or maintains industrial machinery equipment from the mechanical point of view.
  • Develops the sequence of maintenance programs.
  • Diagnoses machine and tool failures.
  • Determines and identifies the necessary spare parts and equivalences for maintenance.
  • Applies techniques to solve industry problems.
  • Performs sales and/or technical purchases through product specifications.
  • Controls through appropriate systems and procedures in a manufacturing department.
  • Manages human, material, and technical resources of a manufacturing department.
  • Controls the movements of a warehouse, design function, modifications, and adaptations of production equipment.

Academic Requirements

To enroll in the Middle Highschool with Technical Studies of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), the applicant must comply with the requirements established by the assignment contest of the Comisión Metropolitana de Instituciones Públicas de Educación Media Superior (COMIPEMS). Once the results are published, the student must complete the enrollment process as mentioned in the call for applications.
