During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Institutional Tutoring Program allowed to offer fundamental support to students, so that their learning cycle was not broken and they received a quality education, all with the aim of having a successful academic career and upon graduation consolidate their professional development and contribute to the progress of the nation, said the IPN´s General Director, Arturo Reyes Sandoval. In various forums, the Secretary of Public Education, Delfina Gomez Alvarez, has insisted that the return to classes in person was necessary not only for academic reasons, but largely because of the urgency of protecting the physical and emotional health of both students and teachers. When inaugurating the 15th Institutional and 8th Inter-institutional Meeting of Tutorials, Reyes Sandoval recognized that, during the pandemic, the IPN, like all Higher Education Institutions, had to implement innovative actions to give continuity to the educational process and tutorials have been one of the central academic activities that support the attention and monitoring of the student community.
"It is proven and the best universities in the world do, he stressed, that acting with tutorials to give a practically personalized accompaniment to their students, allows terminal efficiency not to be reduced and helps them to reach a successful conclusion of their studies," he said. He reported that, in the first semester of 2021, the IPN had a total of 3,732 academic-tutors, 220 peer tutoring (when supported by students) and 90,656 tutored students. At the postgraduate level, 6,274 students had tutorial accompaniment and 2,676 academics exercised a tutorial function, with the participation of a total of 8,950 people in the tutorial action. "These figures are not minor, they are figures that reflect how students have remained in such difficult conditions."
Congratulating the 320 teachers who graduated from the Diploma "Tutoring and the Challenges of Accompaniment in the Integral Training of the IPN Student at the Higher Level", Reyes Sandoval emphasized that according to the Administration System of the Institutional Tutoring Program (SADPIT), 100 percent of the tutors recommend their tutor with one of their classmates, which reflects the excellent work done and the relevance of academic accompaniment. "We care a lot about offering our students a quality education, but even more so their personal well-being." The IPN´s Academic Secretary, David Jaramillo Vigueras, indicated that with this meeting the Polytechnic opens a space for dialogue, analysis and reflection to discuss and build proposals for work and intervention in relation to the following topics: Tutoring In the Face of New Challenges of Accompaniment; Digital Resources as a Tool for Accompaniment, Challenges and Realities; Tutoring and Socio-emotional Skills, their Encouragement and Development in New Learning Areas, and Construction of New Environments and Materials for Peer Tutors.
