Mechanical Engineering


Training competent Mechanical Engineers, who are capable to apply their scientific, technical and socio-cultural knowledge to design, manufacture, innovate and maintain machinery, manufacturing systems, manufacturing equipment, and mechanical devices by taking advantage of different types of energy besides planning, implementing and maintaining industrial plants in operation and creating and directing micro, small and medium sized companies of metal-mechanical area.

Candidate’s Profile

Candidates in one of the Engineering majors taught in the four ESIME campuses should show the following basic knowledge, skills, attitudes and values:

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of Physics and Mathematics.
  • Fluency and Reading Comprehension skills besides the ability to express himself through colloquial and scientific language in spoken and written form.
  • Logical reasoning such as analysis, synthesis and the implementation of knowledge.
  • Use of scientific methodology
  • Comprehension, management and implementation of the information formulated in different languages such as graphic, symbolic, computational besides reading comprehension in English
  • Manual Skills for laboratory work with specialized equipment and instruments
  • Willingness for self-learning to promote effective social and intellectual development
  • Creativity to solve difficulties, concrete improvements, and solve problems
  • Team work skills
  • Responsibility, honesty, respect, and social solidarity

Graduate´s profile

Graduate students will be able to sustain and implement the scientific, technological and abilities, attitudes and values required in their professional practice and contribute to the benefit of the society and the national development. A graduate student will be capable of:

  • Designing, maintaining and building devices, equipment and machines related to Mechanical Engineering field.
  • Planning, designing and starting-up plants and systems which are part of Mechanical Engineering field.
  • Investigating, adapting and building new technologies and knowledge.
  • Planning, organizing, counseling and conducting service, manufacturing and maintenance companies in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Implementing national, international and institutional regulations as well as legal, ethical, ecological of hygiene and safety techniques inherent to Mechanical Engineering.
  • Training and instructing the personnel in different areas of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Understanding, implementing and developing the scientific, technical and socio-economic basic principles of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Being capable of managing the principles and applications related to other disciplines connected with Mechanical Engineering.
  • Obtaining and processing information in oral and written form for projects and investigation.
  • Applying logical, analytical, creative and innovative way of thinking to analyse problems and to make right decisions.
  • Putting into practice the required Mechanical Engineering processes, methods, instruments and tools.
