Engineering in Metallurgy and Materials

Objective

To train professionals in the field of metallurgy and materials, capable of contributing to the solution of current problems of the extractive and manufacturing industry, in line with the technological development needs of the country and the multidisciplinary requirements of the current professional.

Candidate’s Profile

The candidates will develop activities related to the acquisition, process, characterization and evaluation of minerals, metals, ceramics, polymers and composites, have solid knowledge in basic science and fundamentals of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, with a broad management of computer systems, including simulation, with the possibility to develop technology focused on engineering, processing and handling of new materials, knowledge and skills enabling them to mainly design and operate metallurgical processes and an English level allowing them to communicate in a global context.

The candidates will also develop skills such as leadership, organizational capacity, integration and information analysis, high ability to adapt to changing situations, strategic thinking, initiative, entrepreneurship, analytical and teamwork skills, communicability and values among those who emphasize ethics, honesty and responsibility, while contributing to the development of the national industry and assuming positions of high responsibility.

Graduate´s profile

  • Physical and Chemical Properties of the three states of aggregation of matter.
  • The theoretical foundations and bases of operations of the different materials characterization techniques.
  • The fundamentals of the different materials processes, combined with a strong background in basic engineering, enabling it to influence its improvements or the design of innovative alternatives.
  • The administration of metallurgical processes, taking into account aspects such as security, economy, care of the environment.
