B. Sc. in Mathemathics and Physics


To train professionals with a solid preparation in two basic branches of science: physics and mathematics, which allows them to later study the general scientific problems posed by these two scientific disciplines (pure research) and practical problems related to economic production, everyday life and common problems (applied research in physics and mathematics).

Candidate’s Profile

The candidate for a B. Sc. in Mathematics and Physics should possess the following qualities:

  • Discipline and constancy in work.

Graduate´s profile

  • Understand the structures, fundamental properties and general laws that govern the world around us based on the rigorous study of Physics and Mathematics. Collaborate in scientific research and technological development.
  • Perform in the industry’s areas of instrumentation and control, statistical control, computation, engineering processes, metrology, etc.
  • Pursue postgraduate studies in a wide range of fields such as pure or applied sciences, communications, energy, robotics, computing and computer science, biophysics, biomedicine, metrology, materials, economics, etc.
  • Develop teaching activities in educational institutions.
  • Conduct basic research, technological development and consultancy for institutions and companies.

Academic Requirements

Comply in a timely manner with each of the stages of the admission process highlighted in the call for entry to the university system at IPN and show documents such as:

  • High school Certificate.
  • Secondary School Certificate.
  • Unique Code of Population Registration (CURP).
  • Birth certificate.
  • Pass the entry examination.
  • 6 credential photographs.

Work Field

Industry and administration:Graduates from this degree have a wide range of possibilities to contribute with their knowledge to technological development. They currently occupy positions in companies such as Telmex, Satmex, NORMEX, Silicon Graphics, Morgan Stanley Bank, Wolfram, Siemens, Bosch, HSBC, BBVA, etc., as well as working in their own companies.

Nowadays, the graduates interested in administration work in official institutions such as INEGI, SEP, Banco de México, CFE, CENAM, CONACYT, Collective Transportation System, etc. Some graduates motivated by medical applications work in institutions such as National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Hospital 20 de Noviembre, Médica Sur, etc.

Research:Graduates from the ESFM have a long tradition of conducting research in search of results that broaden the landscape of science itself or have concrete benefits for the economic process of society.
