Environmental Engineering

Objective

To form engineers able to attend the demands and needs that the Public Administration, Private Initiative and Society related to the environment, require, administrate, design, build and operate prevention, mitigate or remove pollutants from ground, water and air besides participating in the sustainability, management, evaluation and planning of natural resources ethically and efficiently.​​​

Candidate’s Profile

The candidate for a degree in Environmental Engineering should meet the following requirements:

Knowledge

  • Solid academic basis in physical-mathematics and medical-biology areas.
  • English language skills - technical level.
  • Basic knowledge of human sciences (philosophy, psychology, among others).
  • Basic knowledge of social sciences (socio-economy, investigation methodology).

Abilities

  • Have a correct oral and written communication.
  • Analyse, synthetize and evaluate information.
  • Integrate and apply the acquired knowledge.
  • Work individually and in groups.

Values and Attitudes

  • Have a critical and investigative attitude about the natural processes and the social environment.
  • Have interest in knowing and participating in the national problem solution.
  • Have a creative attitude to transform reality through technological innovation programs and projects.
  • Have a commitment with the sustainable development achievement of the country.

Graduate´s profile

The Environmental Engineering Degree from the UPIBI School gives knowledge to the actions to be taken in order to ensure a balance between human activities and the environmental conservation through knowledge based teaching, abilities and competences, allowing the design, installation, measurement and evaluation of productive systems. Those will be attached to a social, environmental and economical welfare, looking for a better quality of life. In order to achieve all of the above, the Environmental Engineering Degree shows interest in forming Environmental Engineers with have a critical attitude, an up-dated technical and scientific information from teachers with an ample job experience, as well as educational and teaching experience with a special emphasis on the self-development of the student so as to form a flexible mind to ease the adaptation to the constant changes that technology and knowledge ask for. Finally, the main objective is to form Environmental Engineers responsible with our society while taking into account the national and international regulation in order to solve current environmental problems.

Knowledge

  • Physicochemical and biological basis related with the structure and functions of organisms.
  • Biodiversity from a molecular, cellular, individual, demographics and communal point of view.
  • Organisms’ connection with their environment and the management and conservation of natural resources.
  • Physicochemical and biological characterization of soil, water and air.
  • Pollutants types, pollutant dispersion models and soil, water and air pollution prevention, based on engineering.
  • Regulations and legislation related to environment.
  • Management and assessment of the environmental quality.
  • Waste management and waste disposal.
  • Design and use of processes and technologies to prevent, diagnose and control environmental pollution.
  • Administrate national natural resources efficiently in order to have a sustainable development of such resources.
  • Detect, monitor and clean located polluted soils and water.
  • Design mathematical models to determine pollutants dispersion and the know-how.

Abilities

  • Optimize and adapt processes and technologies to diagnose, prevent and control environmental pollution.
  • Look for and analyse information in order to develop, create and innovate air, water and soil anti- pollutant systems.
  • Propose the use of alternative energy resources to conserve a healthy environment.
  • Lead inter and multidisciplinary groups to solve environmental problems.
  • Write and speak in English as well as in Spanish to communicate ideas.
  • Use different kinds of scientific methodology to study living beings and their relation to the environment.
  • Elaborate, formulate and evaluate projects.
  • Handle tools, scientific equipment and geographical information systems to analyse the dispersion of pollutants.
  • Use maths and statistics to analyse the results objectively and rigorously.
  • Use computer technology in the daily work.
  • Transmit scientific knowledge in an oral and written form.
  • Make decisions about environmental problems.

Academic Requirements

Comply in a timely manner with each of the stages of the admission process highlighted in the call for entry to the university system at IPN and show documents such as:

  • Pass the entry examination.
  • 6 credential photographs.
