Objective

To train competent professionals in economy who can contribute to the solution of economic and social problems through the implementation of strategies and projects for industry, business, agencies and the state within the framework of the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of national, regional and sectoral policies of the public and private economic activity.

Graduate´s profile

The graduate in Economics from the National Polytechnic Institute shows a mastery in his knowledge.

The economist will have an analytical and purposeful strength based on historicity and criticality allowing to analyse, evaluate, apply, plan, forecast, design and suggest solutions to economic, technical, scientific and administrative issues.

Show the ability to perform in the public, private, social and research sectors, an attitude of commitment to the social and natural environment, proactive and collaborative, with personal ethical principles in the social, cultural, scientific and technological development of the nation.

Receive a training allowing to make Mexico a sovereign country with social justice, trained to elaborate proposals for economic policies that allow the country to mitigate external dependence, poverty, unemployment, marginalization, injustice, and social exclusion.

The graduate in Economics of IPN will have a solid fundamental support of scientific knowledge and research capacities to be able to carry out developing analysis, evaluation and design of strategic policies of the national economy.

Have the ability to participate in economic analysis of strategic issues for the country and the world in the diverse institutions of the public and private sector, national and international.

Work Field

Companies and organizations of the private sector.

An economist can be hired by financial institutions such as banks, brokerage firms, and investment companies, consultancy firms and companies in general.

Organizations and institutions of the social sector.

An economist can be hired as an advisor in government agencies, analysing economic phenomena analytically and / or empirically, as well as formulating formal approaches to the country's economic problems such as unemployment, lack of economic growth, depletion of natural resources and environmental problems, etc., trying to influence their action in the improvement of economic and social conditions.​
