Engineering in Control and Automation


To train professionals capable of projecting, designing, innovating, directing, maintaining and investigating equipment, devices and control systems, taking into account the quality of work processes, efficient use of energy and natural resources, information systems and environmental impact with a comprehensive vision of the social, economic and industrial development of the country.

Candidate’s Profile

Candidates in control and automation engineering which is taught in the four levels of ESIME must have the following basic knowledge, skills, attitudes and values:

  • Knowledge

    • Theoretical and practical knowledge of the previous physical-mathematical sciences.
  • Abilities​

    • Fluency and reading comprehension, as well as ability to express through everyday and scientific languages, both oral and written.
    • Capabilities of logical reasoning such as analysis, synthesis and application of knowledge.
    • Use of scientific methodology.
    • Comprehension, management and application of information formulated in various languages, such as graphic, symbolic and computational as well as reading comprehension in English.
    • Manual skills for laboratory work with specialized instruments.
    • Creativity to solve new situations, achieve improvements and solve problems.
  • Attitudes

    • Autonomous – learning skills that foster intellectual, affective and social development.
    • Availability to work in teams.
    • Responsibility, respect, honesty, tolerance and social solidarity.

Graduate´s profile

  • Graduates from this degree have a solid interdisciplinary training in applied engineering sciences oriented solution to industrial plant problems in the field of electronics, process control, automation, instrumentation, analogue and digital application systems.

    • They are capable of planning, designing, designing, constructing, maintaining and maintaining industrial control devices, equipment and systems that use or combine different principles derived from pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanics, electronics and cybernetics. ​​

Academic Requirements

Comply in a timely manner with each of the stages of the admission process highlighted in the call for entry to the university system at IPN and show documents such as:

  • Official certificate of higher education.
  • Certificate of secondary education.
  • Single Population Registry Key (CURP).
  • Pass the entry examination.
  • 6 small size photographs.

Work Field

  • More than 1300 graduates of the major are working for the national productive apparatus. 40% of graduates have found employment opportunities in basic industries such as oil, electricity, food, pharmaceutical, etc.
    • Another 40% in the transformation industries: chemical, petrochemical, refining, cement, steel, paper, rubber, glass, etc.
    • 15% in service industries such as car manufacturers, computer services (hardware and software), communications, reengineering, energy saving, pollution, etc.
    • 4.5% as Micro-entrepreneurs and 0.5% is dedicated to teaching.
