Electrical Engineering


Train professionals who are able to plan, design, innovate, install, control, build, coordinate, guide, maintain and administrate equipment and systems as well as gadgets and devices intended for generating, transforming and using the electric power in all its forms. At the same time, operate equipment and electrical materials considering all their applications based on their interrelationship with the force, distribution and use systems.

Candidate’s Profile


  • Theoretical and practical knowledge in Physics and Mathematical sciences and their background.
  • Reading comprehension fluency besides the ability to express themselves in oral and written form applying both colloquial and technical speech.


  • Logical thinking ability to analyse, synthesize and application of knowledge.
  • Use of the scientific methodology.
  • Understanding, handling and implementation of the information generated in different languages such as graphic, symbolic and computational as well as the reading comprehension skill in English.
  • Manual skills to carry out laboratory work with specialized equipment.

  • Designing, maintaining and building devices, equipment and machines related to the studied Engineering.
  • Planning, designing and starting-up plants and systems which are part of Electrical Engineering field.
  • Investigating, adapting and building new technologies and knowledge.
  • Planning, organizing, counseling and conducting service, manufacturing and maintenance companies in its field of competence.

  • Implementation of national, international and institutional regulations as well as legal, ethical, ecological of hygiene and safety techniques inherent to professional activity.
  • Training and instructing the personnel in different areas of its field of competence and diverse workforce.

Work Field

Electrical Engineering graduates from ESIME have an outstanding participation in the public and private electrical sectors.

Electrical engineers are well known and appreciated within the public sector and welcome as project engineers for hydroelectric generation plants, thermoelectric, coal electric, nuclear power and combined cycles among others. They can also take part in transmission, and distribution lines projects or substation, rural electrification, distribution networks, electrical load dispatch and administration of electricity demand, operation of automated systems and electrical safeguards as well as the operation maintenance electrical power systems.

According to government figures, about 75% of the qualified CFE workforce who makes the company run, are ESIME graduates. In other words, there are eleven or twelve thousand ESIME engineers working at CFE currently. What is more, CFE (Federal Commission Electricity) has reported that the electricity demand has increased exponentially in the last few years and a similar growth tendency is forecast in the near future. Consequently, Mexican engineers are expected to have greater work opportunities in:

  • Conceptual basic engineering projects.
  • Detail engineering projects.
  • Equipment specifications and building assembly systems.
  • Operation and Maintenance

    Taking about the private sector, IPN Electrical engineers find a position mainly in electrical manufacturing companies as our engineers have a professional growth in designing and manufacturing electric, three-phase and single-phase motors, distribution and power transformers, electric boards in high and low voltage reactors and capacitors, connectors, electromagnetic ignitors and a very large number of artefacts and electrical devices. ​
