IPN favors scientific mobility and project development with the Programa Horizonte Europa

• Alliances with European institutions will be strengthened to access international funding and research networks.
• IPN has taken solid steps in the field of research, increasing the number of publications and researchers with recognition in the SNI del Conacyt.

• El Politécnico carries out projects of national relevance with significant progress in the consolidation of its researchers.

  As part of the Horizonte Europa de la Comisión Europea program, the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) will link up with universities and research centers on that continent to encourage the mobility of scientists, promote joint projects, access international funding, and strengthen research networks between institutions and nations.

During the workshop "Perspectivas de cooperación con la Unión Europea en investigación: ¿Cómo prepararse para participar en la arena global?" the secretaria de Investigación y Posgrado del IPN, Laura Arreola Mendoza, assured that the Politécnico has taken solid steps in the field of research, by increasing the number of publications and researchers with recognition in the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI) of the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (Conacyt).

She stressed that these indicators position the Politécnico as the second scientific force in Mexico. "To raise the quality and optimization of processes; the relevance of our results; the social appropriation of the products generated by scientific activity; technological development and innovation, and to attend to the advancement of frontier science, all add to the strengthening of the Institute's national and international presence and relevance," she said.

The head of Investigación y Posgrado del IPN said that Mexico's great challenges are also the challenges of the world: inequality, poverty, health, emerging diseases, food security, climate change, water stress and environmental pollution that threaten the conservation of all species.

Arreola Mendoza said that to address these issues, it is necessary to set common objectives and implement global strategies. The workshop, she said, shows that the European agenda is very close to that of the IPN, which makes synergies indispensable to identify cooperation schemes in the Programa Marco de Cooperación Internacional establecido por la Comisión Europea.

The regional coordinator of Euraxess Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Viktoria Bodnarova, informed that the Horizon Europe program's premise is that IPN scientists find research partners in centers or universities in European countries, and indicated that through the Euraxess platform they will be able to establish contacts and learn about research policies in the old continent.

For his part, the founder of Eumex-Connect , David Oliva Uribe, highlighted the importance of international, interdisciplinary and intersectorial collaboration between European and Latin American institutions. He detailed the three pillars of the Horizon Europe program: science of excellence, global challenges and industrial competitiveness and European innovation.

The meeting was held in the auditorium of the IPN's Escuela Superior de Cómputo (ESCOM), with the participation of directors of research centers and postgraduate section heads from various academic units.
