The Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) will begin the 2022-2023 school year with an enrollment of more than 221,000 students at the upper secondary, higher and postgraduate levels, of which 59,000 are new entrants, informed its head, Arturo Reyes Sandoval.

In his welcome message to the new academic year, the IPN Director General called on the new polytechnic students to feel proud, and urged them to give their best effort to become the professionals who will transform Mexico and solve major national and global problems.

During the ceremony, held at the "Jaime Torres Bodet" Cultural Center, he assured that being part of the Polytechnic is synonymous with quality and demand, as well as the highest commitment to society.

"Together we will build a stronger and more enthusiastic polytechnic community, to reaffirm the path of knowledge, innovation and academic excellence. "

Reyes Sandoval stressed that they are part of the generation that has been able to overcome the adversity of the COVID-19 pandemic, marked by the digital era and information and communication technologies (ICTs), and that has achieved greater equality for women.

He affirmed that the IPN is committed to the empowerment and greater participation of women, as well as the eradication of all types of violence, especially gender-based violence.

He said it’s time to return to the formative tasks; return to the classrooms; promote meaningful learning, and assume the academic responsibilities in a face-to-face manner, to endorse our collaboration as an institution of higher education.

During a lecture on the history, values and contributions made by the IPN, the President of the presidente del Decanato, Modesto Cárdenas García, congratulated the students for making the best decision of their lives and becoming part of the institution that has done the most for Mexico's technological development in the last 80 years.

Cárdenas García detailed historical aspects of the origin of the institution and its iconic figures. He emphasized that more than one million professionals have graduated from the Politécnico and highlighted the contributions of great polytechnics such as Guillermo González Camarena, Juan Celada Salmón, Juan Vázquez Lombera, Evangelina Villegas Moreno and Raúl Rojas González; "all of them great researchers who contributed science at an international level".

The Director of Apoyos a Estudiantes (DAES), Sandra Orozco Nagore, said that the IPN welcomes future professionals who will be trained to drive Mexico's technological transformation.

Personnel from the Secretaría de Servicios Educativos and the departments of Difusión Cultural, Actividades Deportivas, Bibliotecas y Publicaciones involved the young people in exhibitions of the sports disciplines offered by the institution, such as athletics, tae-kwon-do, tennis, boxing, soccer, baseball, gymnastics, basketball, judo and kendo.

The new students received information about the different scholarship options for which they can apply, toured the Biblioteca Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología "Victor Bravo Ahuja" and watched a video about the cultural activities in which they can participate, such as dance, music, theater, poetry and literature, as well as the movie listings.

The ceremony included the participation of the Orquesta Sinfónica del IPN with the Mambo del Politécnico.
