The Unidad Profesional Interdisciplinaria de Biotecnología (Upibi) celebrated its 36th anniversary, during which it has trained leaders in Pharmaceutical, Food, Environmental, Biotechnology, and Biomedical Engineering who have elevated the prestige of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN).

During the commemorative ceremony presided over by the Secretary of Administration, Javier Tapia Santoyo, the acting head of this academic unit, Armando Rentería López, highlighted the high potential and commitment of its student, academic, and support communities to education to achieve the academic, research, and postgraduate excellence for which they are known.

He recalled that in September 1987, Upibi was created thanks to two visionaries of cutting-edge education, Raúl Talán Ramírez, then director-general of IPN, and Efrén Parada Arias, the former director of the school. They left a legacy that has been enriched through the great work of their successors.

The occasion was also used to present awards to former directors of the institution: Efrén Parada Arias (1987-1993), María de la Cruz Marcela Segura Granados (1997-2003), Enrique Durán Páramo (2003-2010), Samuel Dorantes Álvarez (2013-2016-2017 interim), Jessica María Domínguez Galicia (2013-2016), and María Guadalupe Ramírez Sotelo (2017-2021). They received the respect, gratitude, and affection of those in attendance.

In his address, Tapia Santoyo emphasized that out of more than 5 million higher education students, 200,000 belong to the privileged community of the leading institution in science and technology. He highlighted to them that "they are the future of this country, they are leaders because being a polytechnic is about transformation, innovation, science, technology, and development."

He also celebrated the work of the directors who, for 36 years, have dedicated their efforts to strengthen, expand, and project Upibi into society for the benefit of polytechnic youth.

To celebrate the establishment of this school, various activities were held, including the "All Green Fair" with the support of the National Water Commission (Conagua), a cultural exhibition titled "History of Upibi," an anniversary fair, a display of cultural workshops, sporting activities, and a concert by the IPN Symphony Orchestra.
