Canal Once, part of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), has introduced its new programming lineup for "Once Noticias Digital," featuring four productions aimed at new young audiences and, for the first time in the history of Mexican television, the LGBTQ+ community. These programs are set to premiere throughout the month of October.
"The Noti del Once," "El Desfiladero," "Contra Versus," and "La VerDrag" are the new productions that aim to strengthen the news section and the rejuvenation of public media, as stated by Carlos Brito Lavalle, the director of the television station.
He reported that the trend in news consumption is through digital platforms, with "the vast majority via social media; websites hold about 25% of the market."
Jenaro Villamil, President of the Public Broadcasting System of the Mexican State (SPR), noted that even though 60% of people still get their information from TV, the real battle lies in algorithms, and in that regard, digital public television is at the forefront.
"We need to engage in the social media debate; the cultural shift is happening there, and we must not only create content for these audiences but also take social stances and positions," he emphasized.
The presentation of the new programming was held in the courtyard of the Interactive Museum of Economics (MIDE) and was attended by Martha Velda Hernández Moreno, Undersecretary of Basic Education at the Ministry of Public Education (SEP); Óscar Camacho, the news director of Canal Once, and the heads of the four news programs.
The new content includes "El Noti del Once," a fast-paced digital news program hosted by Vianey Fernández; "El Desfiladero," a youth roundtable discussion led by Ezra Alcázar; "Contra Versus," an analysis panel where various participants face off, and "La VerDrag," an informative magazine focused on the LGBTQ+ community, hosted by a drag community member.
