Around 3,000 people visited the "Luis Enrique Erro" Planetarium in Zacatenco and the Tezozómoc Museum in Azcapotzalco, both part of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), to enjoy the 15th edition of the "Night of Stars 2023," with the theme "Mexico, under the shadow of the Moon." Attendees enjoyed projections, playful activities for children, expert-led conferences, and telescope observations.
From early hours, thousands of families attended both venues to witness the spectacle offered by the universe. They could observe the "beaver" Moon in its splendor through the telescope lens after the sunset.
The cold weather did not deter children, youth, and adults from contemplating the brightness of Pluto and its satellites. Farther into the universe, Saturn was visible, embraced by its rings, as well as stars forming constellations.
The meteorological conditions of the night were favorable, allowing attendees to enjoy the astronomical feast, which aims to promote science and interest in these areas of knowledge among the new generations.
Omar Matamoros Hernández, the Director of Science and Technology Dissemination at IPN, emphasized the importance of involving children in science communication and having them share their perspectives and experiences at this astronomical event.
He informed that in this edition of the "Night of the Stars," IPN joined the collection of supplies for the victims of Hurricane "Otis" in Guerrero. Both venues of this educational institution were designated as collection centers to support the initiative promoted by the Organizing Committee of the astronomical event.
