To promote scientific outreach and bring knowledge generated by higher education institutions to all sectors of society, the Secretaría de Educación, Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (Secretariat of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation) (Sectei) of the Mexico City government, in collaboration with the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), has introduced the Science and Innovation Outreach Portal.

The website ciencia.sectei.cdmx.gob.mx consists of five sections, including Scientific Heritage, Multiscience, Scientific Contributions, Science Club, and the Science, Technology, Innovation, and Humanities (CTIH) System.

During the presentation, the General Director of IPN, Arturo Reyes Sandoval, emphasized the importance of sparking curiosity and interest in science and technology among children and youth dynamically and playfully.

He noted that students and researchers from the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Química e Industrias Extractivas (Esiqie), and the Centro de Investigación en Ciencia Aplicada y Tecnología Avanzada (Cicata) Unit Altamira, among others, contributed to the platform's content.

Reyes Sandoval mentioned the involvement of the "Luis Enrique Erro" Planetarium and the "Tezozómoc" Museum in the Science Club activity will promote participation through an ID card providing free access and discounts on special activities offered by the IPN's Directorate of Science and Technology Dissemination.

"We, working closely with Sectei, are very proud to be able to promote these new initiatives in Mexico City. For me, one of the most important objectives must be to generate interest, curiosity and a spark in children, adolescents and young people in our great and diverse Mexico City, about science in an attractive, dynamic and playful way".

The head of Sectei, Ofelia Angulo Guerrero, said that through education and knowledge of science and technology, the professionals of the future can be trained, who in the classroom will acquire better tools to perform in the workplace.

With the portal, access to science will be possible, as it helps raise awareness about the causes and effects of climate change, propose actions to mitigate impacts, showcase cutting-edge scientific research, as well as technological developments in renewable energies.

After the presentation, attendees moved to the "Luis Enrique Erro" Planetarium, where the documentary "Mexico-Tenochtitlan against climate change," supported by Sectei, was screened in a full dome. The documentary displayed advances in frontier scientific research and technological development in renewable energies, conducted by scientists from the IPN and authorities from the government of Mexico City.

Through these actions, the Politécnico and Sectei guarantee access to scientific knowledge related to the problems that affect the population, allowing the consolidation of the IPN as a cutting-edge educational institution working towards as more equitable and sustainable world.
