Authorities from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) and the government of the state of Puebla laid the cornerstone for the construction of the Center for Scientific and Technological Studies (Cecyt) number 20 and the Unidad Profesional Interdisciplinaria (Upii), with an investment of 2.8 billion pesos to foster the development and growth of the region.

This project will be developed on a 130,000 m2 plot of land, with 162,000 m2 of construction. The resources and land will be provided by the state government to accommodate a student body of over 7,500.

Accompanied by the Governor of Puebla, Sergio Salomón Céspedes Peregrina, the General Director of IPN, Arturo Reyes Sandoval, stated that this is a pivotal step to enhance access to education and increase the competitiveness of economic activities through the training of highly specialized human resources.

He added that Cecyt is expected to enroll 2,000 students per shift (morning and afternoon) for the 2024-2025 academic year with a common core curriculum, and subsequently, students will be able to choose among careers such as Cybersecurity Management, Digital Marketing, Automotive Systems, Digital Systems, and Food Science.

He detailed that the Upii Puebla campus plans to accept 3,500 students in both shifts, in academic programs including Food Engineering, Control and Automation, Artificial Intelligence, Automotive Systems, and a bachelor's degree in Data Science.

Each academic unit will have the necessary infrastructure to carry out academic and administrative activities: classrooms, equipped laboratories, and computer rooms, among others.

The head of IPN thanked the support of Governor Sergio Salomón Céspedes and state authorities for their contribution to the expansion of excellent scientific and technological education, aimed at training young people to contribute to economic development and social justice for the benefit of the region and the nation.

"IPN continues working in line with the strategic objectives of the Government of Mexico and Puebla to address the most pressing needs for regional and national development."

The Governor of Puebla stated that with the support of IPN, they will work to strengthen education, entrepreneurship, and leadership of small and medium-sized enterprises for the growth of the region.

He expressed that the support of the General Director of the Politécnico was essential in the pursuit of educational improvement in the region, emphasizing that the presence of IPN will enable the training of excellent graduates, with the expansion of educational offerings at the upper secondary and higher levels.

During the event, Reyes Sandoval and Céspedes Peregrina were honored witnesses of the signing of a general agreement between Canal Once and the Information and Communication System of the government of Puebla (SICOM), signed by Carlos Brito Lavalle and Pedro Gómez Castillo, heads of both organizations, respectively, to strengthen radio between the two institutions, which will share content to be broadcast nationally through Canal Once.
