Zenaida Alzaga
The Instituto Politécnico Nacional paid a posthumous tribute to the founder and first director of the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Mecánica y Eléctrica (ESIME), Azcapotzalco Unit, and promoter of the Centro de Investigación e Innovación Tecnológica (Ciitec), Vicente Mayagoitia Barragán, who passed away in 2023.
Throughout his brilliant professional career, initially as a student of Industrial Mechanical Engineering at ESIME Zacatenco, and later as a teacher, researcher, and administrator at the Politécnico, Professor Mayagoitia Barragán was entrusted with the task and responsibility of working on the creation project of the Azcapotzalco Unit, where he served as director from 1989 to 1995.
Words were spoken about the legacy of this notable Polytechnic to his alma mater in the presence of his widow, Gloria Estrada Regalado, his son Vicente Mayagoitia Regalado, as well as family members, colleagues, and friends.
In the courtyard of Ciitec, Vicente Mayagoitia's life as a teacher and researcher was highlighted, particularly in the design and development of components for the transportation sector. This line of study and technological application earned him, among other recognitions, the Applied Research Award from IPN in 2005.
As the director of ESIME, the honoree established the Productivity Center, which, along with the Industrial Diffusion Center, led to the establishment of Ciitec in 1997, a partner to assist in the needs of the productive sector and in technological innovation matters.
Professor Mayagoitia Barragán always showed his passion for work, for exalting the colors of the Politécnico, and for upholding the motto of this house of studies.
As part of the tribute, the Secretary of Research and Graduate Studies of the Politécnico and the interim director of Ciitec, along with the family of the honoree, unveiled the plaque of the Tutorial Committees Room with the name "Vicente Mayagoitia Barragán."
