Star shower at IPN

A star shower was experienced at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) with the visit of two major figures in science, Dr. Julieta Fierro Gossman and Dr. Ana María Cetto Kramis, who coincided with the need for women to have greater participation in science to contribute to Mexico's development and to shape a more just and equitable world.

In the event titled "Women at the Forefront of Outreach", organized by the Directorate of Science and Technology Dissemination (DDiCyT) and the Conversus Talks platform, the scientists shared with students from the Centros de Estudios Científicos y Tecnológicos (CECyT) and various professional units, their experiences on the path of science and their rebellion against life to change the reality of women, so they exercise their freedom in all fields of professional development.

Dr. Julieta Fierro Gossman and Dr. Ana María Cetto Kramis agreed on the need for women to have greater participation in science.

Fierro - who recently received an Honorary Doctorate from IPN, in the context of the "Lázaro Cárdenas" award ceremony - stated that it is necessary to offer greater support to women to study scientific and technological careers, with more scholarships and childcare facilities.

She explained that astronomy is experiencing a great moment because now distant objects can be observed, and there are space probes and worlds where there is water and life is being sought: "It's a great time for science because we have more technology," she emphasized.

On the other hand, Ana María Cetto - a scientist recognized for her pacifist work and specialized in the physical and mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics - assured that science has no limit because as time passes, new ways of understanding reality are discovered.

She argued that utopia is a dream, but it is also an indicator of the path that must be followed in the field of science. She commented that women must be rebellious as an act of freedom and join the world of science to contribute to achieving a fairer world.

At the end of the event, the scientists thanked IPN for opening these spaces for interaction with young people, while they emotionally sang the traditional "Huélum," accompanied by Policarpio Astronauta, the official mascot of this institution.
