There are numerous scientific and technological contributions made by these polytechnic alumni that transcend borders due to their vision and creativity. These contributions not only provide opportunities for future generations of this institution but also serve as inspiration and a reference point for the entire crimson and white community.
A Polytechnic Dean in the United Kingdom
Dr. María Teresa Alonso Rasgado, Dean of Global Engagement at the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), has built a successful and fruitful academic career in the United Kingdom. She has dedicated a significant part of her time to promoting the presence and prestige of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional in that nation.
Originally from Chihuahua, the Mexican scientist, who completed her undergraduate and master's studies at the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería y Arquitectura (ESIA), Zacatenco Campus, has championed various initiatives that benefit both institutions. These initiatives include the development of multidisciplinary joint research projects to address common challenges.
The distinguished researcher, who considers herself a product of the Politécnico, holds a special affection for her Alma Mater. She stated, "The education at IPN is excellent and gave me the opportunity to grow as a professional and pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom," when she received the "Lázaro Cárdenas" Award in 2019.
As a mechanical engineering professor at QMUL, she has also made it possible for polytechnic students to pursue postgraduate studies in the European country, where the educational quality of the Politécnico is recognized.
Beyond our borders, Teresa Alonso Rasgado has promoted the implementation of a two-month intensive English course, taught by British instructors, for polytechnic students. Upon successful completion, they are eligible to pursue postgraduate studies at Queen Mary University of London, the University of Durham, or the University of Leeds. The renowned polytechnic alumna has also received the Ohtli Award, the highest honor granted by the Mexican Foreign Service, for her significant contributions to strengthening educational ties with the United Kingdom.
