Topographic and Photogrammetry Engineering

Objective

To train professionals whose primary function is to plan, design, organize, direct, execute, supervise and analyse projects of measurement and representation of the terrestrial surface of a given region using a flat surface as a reference and administrate economic, technical and human resources that require such studies and projects.

Candidate’s Profile

Candidates to a degree in Topographic Engineering must have the following knowledge: Strong academic bases in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Drawing and Computing, at a high school level, preferably in the area Of Physical-Mathematical Sciences.

Knowledge

  • Basic knowledge and skills of high school level, which guarantees an adequate performance.
  • Attitudes and values to be responsible for their training process and take an active position in the study and development of the projects and work required, coinciding with the ideology and principles of the institution.
  • Higher education preferably in the branch of Engineering and Physical-Mathematical Sciences.
  • Knowledge to understand the logic of the basic disciplines, their concepts and the interrelations with other disciplines.
  • Basic knowledge that strengthens the capacity for self-training.
  • Basic knowledge on communication and oral and written expression in Spanish and foreign languages, computing, use and management of state-of-the-art scientific technologies and sports and artistic activities.

  • Analyse problems and evaluate solutions based on information as well as apply the knowledge and integrate a solution. Work in team and be able to adapt to the environment.

Academic Requirements

Work Field

Given the preparation of the graduates and according to the functions that must be developed in their productive activity, they can immediately join the work field in any of the following companies and entities:

  • National Institute of Statistics Geography and Informatics: INEGI.
  • Ministry of Communications and Transport: SCT.
  • Secretariat of Agrarian Reform: SRA.
  • National Agricultural Registry: RAN.
  • Federal Electricity Commission: CFE.

    The work scheme derived from the functions to be performed is the following:

  • Recognition, tracing (preliminary or final) levelling, calculation, drawing and cartographic representation, in addition to the supervision, preliminary and final projects in construction engineering works in SCT, PEMEX, CFE and private companies dedicated to the task.
  • Collection of geodesic positions of points on the earth's surface in INEGI, SCT, PEMEX, SRA, RAN and private companies dedicated to the task.
  • Determination, gathering and graphical representation of the geometric values of the boundaries of properties for the legalization of their property, in INEGI, SCT, SRA, RAN, CFE, PEMEX, Cadastre Addresses of federative entities and municipalities, individuals requiring expert adjudication of property or litigation.
  • Collection of data through photogrammetric methods, remote sensing or artificial satellites, such as terrestrial surface data in order to determine geometric values for analysis or for applications of digital image processing and geographic information systems, INEGI, SCT , SRA, RAN, CFE, PEMEX, private companies of Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Systems and Digital Image Processing.
  • Geometric processing and analysis of aerial photographs, satellite images, radar, echo sounder, etc.
  • Graphical representation, processing and analysis of information obtained from global positioning satellites for their integration into a convenient reference system and their graphic representation in a cartographic system, INEGI, SCT, SRA, RAN, CFE, PEMEX, private companies of Geomatics, Geographic Information, Photogrammetry and Remote Perception Systems and Digital Image Processing.
  • Support in decision-making in engineering projects, in the implementation of geographic information systems, in cartographic and geodetic reference design, in photogrammetry projects, etc.
  • Work for INEGI, SCT, SRA, RAN, CFE, PEMEX, private companies of Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing.
