El Once, 65 Years of Countless Stories

The most fitting venue to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Latin America's oldest public, cultural, and educational channel could only be the Palacio de Bellas Artes. An evening that brought together the crimson and white television family, as well as special guests who enjoyed cultural presentations that showcased the diversity that has characterized this broadcaster.

The director of the television station expressed gratitude for the presence and support received in pushing El Once to break its boundaries and become a multiplatform entity.

"I believe that all the stories people have shared with us over time are what have made this broadcaster great, not only for its profound historical value but because it reflects the trust that exists in this medium of communication. Its programs are a living treasure trove of the country's historical processes," he stated.

A long journey has been traveled since that first broadcast: a mathematics class taught by Professor and Engineer Vianey Vergara. A story that was acknowledged by the Secretary of Public Education: "El Once is Mexico. Through the screen and its platforms, we can see and enjoy the socio-cultural and linguistic diversity of our country, the history of popular traditions, science, sports, national and world news."

The significance of El Once for Mexico's cultural landscape was underscored by the Secretary of Culture: "Good television educates, it does not diminish the mind. On this channel, Mexican children and youth had a space for the first time when nobody considered them as present, intelligent, and capable beings; a courageous broadcaster that has challenged censorship, broken taboos, with a pioneering spirit that has set precedents."

That social vocation of young engineers who distributed antennas made by themselves so that this channel could be tuned into homes was the same one highlighted by the President of the Public Broadcasting System of the Mexican State, indicating that El Once is a demonstration that it is possible to build public communication by thinking about the audiences.

Like a journey through time, Plutarco Haza, the first host of the iconic program "Bizbirije," made attendees nostalgically relive, through some videos, the steps taken over the past 65 years, especially the trajectory of journalist Cristina Pacheco, in whose honor it was announced that the El Once Forum B will be renamed.

Youth took center stage: members of the Creative Workshops, with disciplines as varied as puppetry, accompanied by the characters of Once Niñas y Niños, as well as music and rap, took over the stage.

Iconic and powerful voices like those of Eugenia León and Morganna Love delighted attendees. Also, inclusion, a distinctive mark of the channel, made its appearance at the climax with the Drag Queen show, who offered a spectacle with Juan Gabriel's songs. Finally, the voice of Ximena Sariñana closed the evening in honor of the Polytechnic's television station, whose sea of stories reaches more than 33.9 million viewers.
