ESIA Ticomán Celebrates SLB Day

Oil and gas industry professionals shared real-world field insights and technical expertise with Polytechnic engineering students.

The School of Engineering and Architecture (Escuela Superior de Ingeniería y Arquitectura, ESIA), Ticomán Campus, hosted "SLB Day," an event where energy industry specialists shared key insights into oil and gas exploration and production with students from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN).

Organized by the Petroleum Engineering Department in collaboration with the SPE International (Society of Petroleum Engineers) Student Chapter—a non-profit organization dedicated to professional development within the energy sector—the initiative aimed to expand students' technical perspectives on current industry challenges.

During the presentation "Oil & Gas: Industry Overview, Risk Management, and Digital Solutions," engineers Andrés Felipe Núñez Dávila, Edison Barrera Aguilar, and Arnott Dorantes García from multinational energy services company SLB detailed the operational processes, optimization strategies, and logistics required to safely drill and complete wells.

Held in the Heriberto Palacios Auditorium, the session covered high-value project management, technical evaluation, well engineering, complex drilling operations, and the implementation of digital tools and automated solutions to enhance field performance.

Throughout the lecture, the engineers engaged with the audience, emphasizing that energy exploration remains a high-risk industry where sound engineering principles and cutting-edge technology are essential to project success. They urged students to prioritize fluency in English—a fundamental requirement in the global energy sector—and encouraged them to seek industry exposure early in their academic careers.

The SLB Day lecture series also featured technical presentations by Magda Maritza Escobedo ("SLB Performance Live Center: Transforming Risk Management in Drilling"), Carlos Alberto Rodríguez Gil ("SLB PLC: Optimizing Drilling Performance Through a Digital Ecosystem"), and Araceli Martínez Pacheco ("SLB PLC: Anticipating Risks Through Digital Geomechanics").
